En primeurs 2023

Vintage 2023

The 2023 vintage wine at Château Smith Haut Lafitte is described as a "vintage of the future and of memory."

Harvest

The harvest began on August 23 and ended on September 9.

Vinification and Aging

The grape berries are directly pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels over 7 to 10 days, followed by aging on total lees.

The wine is aged in 50% new barrels.

Wine Profile

“A very aromatic nose with a lovely basket of yellow and white fruits, offering a beautiful sense of freshness. Then, great complexity unfolds with delicate notes of acacia flower, linden, and charming spicy nuances.

The palate is quite surprising with its vibrant freshness paired with lovely roundness. The first impression on the palate is one of freshness, followed by the full expression of ripeness, creaminess, and richness brought by the perfect grape maturity. The mouthfeel is broad and powerful, yet always supported by a refreshing acidic backbone. It stretches on very long with opulence, and gradually, freshness takes over for a final crescendo of delicacy and brightness.

A great perception of sapidity closes this tasting experience. Aromatically, there's a delicious blend of yellow fruits like peach, apricot, and fresh mango, combined with fresher notes of citrus and pink grapefruit. The floral and spicy dimension, finer and more delicate, then comes through—delivering beautiful aromatic complexity that leads into a long finish, reflecting the flinty character of the terroir.” – Château Smith Haut Lafitte
