History and anecdotes
Au XIXème siecle, le domaine de Léoville, en appellation Saint-Julien, était l’un des plus vastes crus. Il fut ensuite divisé en trois domaines le Château Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Barton, Château Léoville Poyferré. Une partie du domaine de Léoville est achetée en 1826 par l’Irlandais Hugh Barton, scellant la naissance du Château Léoville Barton, toujours propriété de la famille Barton. La finesse de ses vins lui permet d’être classé 2ème Grand Cru lors du classement de 1855.
