En primeurs 2023

Vintage 2023

2023 at Château Pape Clément was marked by a harvest requiring tenacity and patience—29 days of meticulous work starting on August 23 with Sauvignon Gris and ending on October 3 with Cabernet Sauvignon. The choice of manual harvesting, with multiple passes per vine, ensured ideal ripeness of the grape berries. The Merlots offered rare complexity and intensity, while the Cabernet Sauvignons, though small, were vibrant and well-balanced.

Vinification

For the red wines, vinification focuses on expressing pure fruit “as naturally as possible,” using indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction to reveal the unique aromatic complexity of each plot.

Various containers were used to enhance fruit intensity and tannin structure without making oak the dominant feature: barrels, large casks, concrete vats, and ceramic vessels. This approach has produced authentic red wines that celebrate the harmony between nature, terroir, and craftsmanship.

Détails chateau PAPE CLEMENT

History and anecdotes Château Pape Clément is a Grand Cru Classé of Grave since 1959. The history of the vineyard goes back to 1252 and it was called Domaine de la Mothe. It was not until 1306 that the Château changed its name: Bertrand de Goth, then pope under the name of Clement V, gave his name to the property. In 1980, the tycoon Bernard Magrez took over the reins of the property and surrounded himself with Michel Rolland. In 2009, the quality of the white wine is recognized by the critic Robert Parker who gives the perfect score of 100/100.
