Vision of the Vintage ‘2023, the first judgment ‘
“Vintages follow one another and are definitely not alike. Under an unreadable sky, a subtle and intimate interpretation of the place tipped 2023 into the league of great Palmers.” - Château Palmer

Viticulture
Winter is cool and wet. The Merlots begin to bud during the last week of March. Spring is mild and humid, despite starting with a frost episode that had no impact on the vineyard. The humidity urged the teams to stay vigilant in preserving the sanitary state of the vines. Flowering took place from May 31 to June 5 in dry and warm conditions, signaling a great promise for the 2023 vintage. June was mixed—cloudy and warm. August was highly contrasting: it began a little gloomy but was followed by two heatwaves, which had a positive effect on the ripening of the berries.

Harvest
Harvesting began on September 11 with the Merlots. It was paused for a week due to thunderstorms. The Cabernets were harvested later in the season under ideal conditions.

Tasting - Vintage 2023
Under an unpredictable sky, this 2023 vintage, full of beautiful aromatic freshness, promises wines with harmonious control, cultivating their uniquely velvety texture.” - Château Palmer

Details chateau ALTER EGO

History and anecdotes

The English General Charles Palmer acquired the estate in 1814 and gave it his name in the 1830s. The Peireire brothers, influential bankers, bought Château Palmer in 1853, shortly before its classification as a 3rd growth in 1855. They built the emblematic château we know today.

In 1938, the estate was bought by four great Bordeaux merchant families, the Ginestet, Mihailhe, Mähler-Besse and Sichel. Today, the last two families are the owners, and since 2004, the management has been entrusted to Thomas Duroux, an agricultural engineer and oenologist.
