CHATEAU LA MISSION HAUT BRION BLANC, 2023
En primeurs 2023
Vintage 2023
After a rainy and cold winter, the vine experienced rapid growth supported by regular rains and warm days. These conditions favored the development of mildew, which was contained by the work of the vineyard teams. The flowering took place in perfect conditions, promising a generous harvest.
Harvest
From August 24 to September 5.
Aging
The wine was aged in 46.3% new French oak barrels.
Wine Profile
" Considered by many as the undisputed 6th Premier Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux, this transcendent Cru Classé of Graves continues to shine in the constellation of Domaine Clarence Dillon vineyards.
The wine presents a very nice yellow color. The first nose is subtle and moderately intense. On swirling, a ripe fruity note appears with hints of white peach, slightly lemony, then the flowers appear, delicate. The entry on the palate is nervous, vibrant, surprising if one considers what the ripeness of the nose suggested. Then, the wine is juicy in the mid-palate, finishing with a broad and fat finale. The wine is long and seems unwilling to leave the palate. This Mission is a great classic of the cru. " - Ch. La Mission Haut-Brion

History and anecdotes
Located in front of Château Haut-Brion upon which it shares a large gravel terrace, the Mission Haut-Brion’s history is closely related to the Château Haut-Brion ones.
It was founded in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family when Arnaud de Lestonnac got married to Marie de Pontac (Haut-Brion). In the following century, it was bequeathed to the Vincentian priests of the Mission who carried out major works on the vines. In the 19th, the Chiapella family related to Louisiana, participated in the Mission Haut-Brion’s transatlantic reputation.
In 1983, the Clarence Dillon estate, owner of Château Haut-Brion, acquired the Mission, thus benefiting from the same know-how.
The Mission Haut-Brion was seized during the French Revolution and sold as “National Asset ''.
“If God would forbid drinking, would he have made this wine as good as it is?” would have declared the Marshal de Richelieu about the Mission Haut-Brion.
