CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL, 2023

PRIMEURS - LIVRAISON 2026

"The finesse is quite phenomenal here, with such complexity of fruits and vibrant, bright flowers. It is reminiscent of the great old Cos vintages, like 1955 or 1982, but with much more shape and modernity." - James Suckling

En primeurs 2023

Vintage 2023

An ideally located terroir in the north of Médoc, closest to the Estuary of the Gironde and the Atlantic Ocean, constantly moderating temperature extremes in the spring and late season.

For the production of the new vintage, a meticulous selection process was used to choose the finest terroirs and the oldest vines of the estate to perfect the blend of Château Cos d’Estournel 2023. Precision viticulture and personalized care were applied in the vineyard to make the right decisions at each stage.

Cos d’Estournel 2023 offers a great moment of tasting emotion: controlled power supported by a delicate harmony between velvety tannins and spice aromas.

Wine Profile, 2023 Sophisticated

The terroir of Cos d'Estournel performed very well in 2023. The proximity of the hill to the marshes helped counterbalance the last two late heat waves, which explains the exceptional balance of the wine. The velvety tannins, restrained power, and extremely sophisticated finish are evident.

Cos d’Estournel 2023 presents a delicate harmony and offers a great moment of emotion.

Détails chateau COS D'ESTOURNEL

History and anecdotes

The history of the Cos d’Estournel which is located in Saint-Estèphe, started in 1811 when Louis Gaspard d’Estournel bought vines, in addition to those he already inherited. The origin of the name “Cos”, which means “hill of stones” in old Gascon, highlights the estate’s ideal location. The Château architecture is unique with magnificent pagodas, a door which came from Zanzibar and many ornaments which remind of the exoticism of the Orient. The estate’s wines were exported to India during the 19th century. In 1855, Cos d’Estournel was classified as Second Grand Cru. In 2000, Michel Reybier became the owner of the château.

The founder, Louis Gaspard D’Estournel, is nicknamed the Saint-Estèphe maharajah because of his open-mindedness and Orient fascination. In 2004, the Cos D’Estournel 2001 vintage was ranked within the Wine Spectator Top 100 thanks to its 94/100 mark. For the 2016 vintage, Cos D’Estournel was scored with the perfect mark of 100/100 by Robert Parker and James Suckling.
