CHATEAU DUHART MILON, 2023
En primeurs 2023
Vintage 2023: Winemaker Weather
"We love this vintage: its atypical character allows for freedom of interpretation and reveals differences." - Domaines Barons de Rothschild/p>
2023 in Pauillac began with abundant rainfall, 500 millimeters of precipitation between the end of harvest and spring. The wet spring favored the development of fungal diseases and required regular treatment, all within the framework of organic viticulture. Bud break started later, while flowering was typical, in mid-May. July and August were marked by thunderstorms; however, precipitation was lower compared to surrounding appellations. Two late heatwaves punctuated the end of summer, in August and September. These high temperatures required careful monitoring of vineyards and their ripening to preserve acidity.

Wine Profile - Duhart-Milon or The Biker with Big Feet
"He struts and arrives on his Harley, but deep down, his (clay) heart is tender, his trajectory perfectly defined, and his loyalty unwavering. From the berry tastings, Duhart amazed us with its ability to absorb the challenges of 2023, especially towards the end of the vintage, with our grapes perfectly resisting the two successive heatwaves at the end of August and beginning of September. This is proof that we now have a vineyard reaching maturity and that the replanting efforts initiated since 2016 on our finest terroirs are finally bearing fruit. In the cellar, extractions are easy and quickly reveal an unexpected density, effortlessly." - Domaines Barons de Rothschild
