En primeurs 2023

Vintage 2023

An ideally located terroir in the north of Médoc, closest to the Estuary of the Gironde and the Atlantic Ocean, constantly moderating temperature extremes in the spring and late season.

Deeply rooted vines have produced a vintage of surprising balance with aging potential. The 2023 vintage stands out for its opulence, combining the generosity of Sémillon and the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc.

Wine Profile, 2023 Voluptuous

"In 2023, the vines of Cos d’Estournel Blanc, thanks to their deep roots, their proximity to the Gironde, and the constant care of the winemakers, have given birth to a vintage of amazing balance, great density, and distinction.
Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2023 is defined by its opulence thanks to the generosity of the Sémillon which brings an enveloping texture, and by the freshness and elegance of its Sauvignon Blanc.

This complexity is revealed right from the nose with aromas of passion fruit, white pepper, and yellow peach. Then, the palate is fresh and lively with notes of citrus zest typical of Sauvignon Blanc, enriched by candied touches of apple and honey." - Château Cos d'Estournel

Détails chateau COS D'ESTOURNEL

History and anecdotes The history of Cos d’Estournel, located in Saint-Estèphe, begins in 1811 when Louis Gaspard d’Estournel purchased vines to complement those he had inherited. The origin of the name Cos, meaning "hill of pebbles" in old Gascon, highlights the estate's ideal location. The architecture of the château is unique, with its sumptuous pagodas, a gate from Zanzibar, and numerous ornaments reminiscent of the exoticism of the Orient. As early as the 19th century, the estate's wines were exported as far as India. In 1855, Cos d’Estournel was classified as a second grand cru. In 2000, Michel Reybier became the owner of the château. The open-mindedness and fascination with the Orient of the founder, Louis Gaspard D’Estournel, earned him the nickname "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe." In 2004, the 2001 vintage of Cos d’Estournel was part of the top 100 Wine Spectator, obtaining a score of 94/100. For the 2016 vintage, Cos d’Estournel received the perfect score of 100/100 from Robert Parker and James Suckling.
