En primeurs 2023

Viticulture
The 2023 vintage at Château Pontet-Canet shone due to bold choices regarding harvest dates. The teams decided to harvest the Merlot earlier to promote the freshness and fruitiness of this variety and avoid a stewed fruit character. Conversely, they chose to harvest the Cabernet Sauvignon later, after September 28, to obtain finer tannins.

Blending
The 2023 wine from Château Pontet-Canet is a blend of four Bordeaux varieties: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot.

Aging
The 2023 vintage of Château Pontet-Canet is aged in 50% new oak barrels, with 35% amphorae and 15% previously used barrels.

Wine Profile
“With the 2023 vintage, this estate has produced a wine of unprecedented aromatic intensity and precision, marking a significant evolution. Revealing an elegant and fresh bouquet of blackberries and cassis mixed with notes of violet, gentian, and menthol, the Pontet-Canet 2023 is medium to full-bodied, flawless and multidimensional, with a core of pure and precise fruit framed by ultra-refined tannins and a powerful yet controlled profile, concluding with a long mineral finish influenced by licorice.” - Robert Parker, 96 - 98 / 100

Détails chateau PONTET-CANET

History and anecdotes Created by Jean-François de Pontet at the beginning of the 18th century, the vineyard was enlarged a few decades later by the acquisition of plots of land in the Canet area. Château Pontet-Canet is recognized for the great quality of its wines, and this is confirmed by being classified as the 5th Growth of Pauillac in 1855. In 1975, Château Pontet-Canet became the property of the Tesseron family, a cognac merchant. In 1994, Alfred Tesseron revolutionized the methods of vineyard management by adopting sustainable farming techniques based on biodynamics. Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc properties that has known only three families of owners.
