CHATEAU BEYCHEVELLE, 2023
En primeurs 2023
Vintage 2023
The frost episode on April 5 did not affect Château Beychevelle thanks to their attention to the vineyard. Spring was warm and dry, followed by a rather wet summer which favored the development of downy mildew. The teams fought against its spread in the vineyard and succeeded in preserving the quality of the vintage. September recorded heatwave episodes with temperatures rising more than 4 degrees above seasonal normals.
Viticulture
Budding at Château Beychevelle was early, on March 25 for the Merlots and April 1 for the Cabernet Sauvignons. Flowering (May 20 for the Merlots, May 25 for the Cabernet Sauvignons) was early due to warmer-than-normal seasonal temperatures, also explaining a slightly earlier veraison (July 11 for the Merlots, July 20 for the Cabernet Sauvignons). This early trend also marked the harvest, which took place from September 13 to September 25 for the Merlots, then from September 20 to October 6 for the Cabernet Sauvignons.
Profile of Château Beychevelle 2023, balanced, elegant, and racy
"Appearance: Deep and opulent purple hue announcing the great intensity of this wine.
Nose: Soft woody notes delicately blend with slightly smoky fragrances. The aromas of black fruits add a fruity dimension. Blackberries echo black cherries. It is enchanting!
Palate: The attack is lively and fresh, revealing generous fruitiness in harmony with woody vanilla nuances. The elegance of Château Beychevelle is confirmed once again in 2023 with floral notes of violets. Its texture is remarkably fine, caressing the palate with subtlety. Its racy character is expressed through assertive tannins that extend the finish. They bring power, density, and tension to the whole. At the end of the mouth, a slight tangy note adds length to this harmonious balance. It is a very beautiful Château Beychevelle."

History and anecdotes
Château Beychevelle is a prestigious Cru Classé with a history dating back to the 16th century. Powerful families lived in, especially Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette, the First Duke of Epernon and Grand Admiral of France, who bought the estate under the reign of Henri II. According to the legend, ships that would pass ahead of his Château had to lower their sails as a sign of allegiance, that is why it was named Beychevelle: “lower sails”. Nowadays, Grands Millésimes de France (Castel and Suntory Group) own the estate.Vineyard Detail
