En primeurs 2023

2023 Vintage
The 2023 vintage was all about nuance. It expressed the diversity of Château Cheval Blanc's vineyard, with variations in soil, grape varieties, and vine age. This mosaic of very singular components establishes the signature of the Chateau. 2023 is a generous vintage, reflecting the climatic conditions and expressing the identity of each vineyard parcel.

Viticulture
2023 was a year with few notable climatic extremes, except for high temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius on August 23rd and 24th, 2023. Rainfall was consistent throughout the year, with slightly abundant rains in August that were beneficial for ripening. The vegetative cycle was regular with a beautiful flowering, leading to generous yields. Strong mildew pressure was controlled, and the harvest took place in very good weather conditions, resulting in grapes reaching full maturity.

Vinification
Each of the 54 parcels is vinified in its dedicated tank to fully express the identity of the terroir that constitutes it and makes it unique. Thus, the 54 parcels are vinified separately. Depending on the tanks, the dominant aromatic note varies, ranging from fruity notes of strawberry and raspberry to more floral notes like rose and violet.

Wine profile
"Floral notes, red fruit notes, eucalyptus notes, licorice, mint, which bring a lot of freshness to the blend of Cheval Blanc, but it is especially on the palate that ultimately all the identity of the property is revealed with a soft and delicate attack, a wine that accelerates in the mouth with beautiful density, presence, a nice volume in the mid-palate and an endless wine that lengthens immensely." - Pierre-Olivier Clouet, Technical Director at Chateau Cheval Blanc

Détails chateau CHEVAL BLANC

History and anecdotes The Cheval Blanc estate was created in 1832 by Jean-Jacques Ducasse following the acquisition of vineyard land formerly attached to Château Figeac. Discovering an exceptional terroir, the owners opted for a singular grape variety, composed of half Merlot and half Cabernet Franc. In 1878, the wine was awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1954, Cheval Blanc was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the Saint-Emilion classification. In 1998, Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère became the owners of the prestigious château and gave it a new vitality. Pierre Lurton became Chairman and CEO of Cheval Blanc.
