LA CHAPELLE DE LA MISSION HAUT-BRION, 2024

En primeurs 2024
Vintage 2024
2024 was marked by humidity and regular rainfall, resulting in nearly 25% more work in the vineyard: trimming, leaf removal, ripeness control... Flowering was late; it was uniform for white grapes, while some shatter occurred in reds. July brought ideal conditions that allowed for good berry growth. Thanks to the constant attention of the teams, the quality of the grapes was preserved.
Viticulture
"2024 was a demanding season, but the vine, carefully and persistently supported by our dedicated teams, yielded a harvest whose first juices hinted at wines full of promise." - Domaines Clarence Dillon
Harvest
The harvest began on September 18 and ended on October 2. Sorting was very strict: 150 harvesters selected only the best berries, which then passed through three successive sorting tables—manual, density, and optical. Although yields were low, comparable to those of the 1991 and 2013 vintages, the quality was there. This potential was made possible thanks to the great terroirs, the expertise of the teams, and the know-how passed down through generations.
Aging
The wine was aged in 31% new French oak barrels.
Wine Profile
"Aromatic and fruity juices that hinted at beautiful wines, once again proving that nature and expertise combined can create miracles." - Domaines Clarence Dillon

Details chateau LA MISSION HAUT BRION
History and anecdotes
Located in front of Château Haut-Brion upon which it shares a large gravel terrace, the Mission Haut-Brion’s history is closely related to the Château Haut-Brion ones.
It was founded in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family when Arnaud de Lestonnac got married to Marie de Pontac (Haut-Brion). In the following century, it was bequeathed to the Vincentian priests of the Mission who carried out major works on the vines. In the 19th, the Chiapella family related to Louisiana, participated in the Mission Haut-Brion’s transatlantic reputation.
In 1983, the Clarence Dillon estate, owner of Château Haut-Brion, acquired the Mission, thus benefiting from the same know-how.
The Mission Haut-Brion was seized during the French Revolution and sold as “National Asset ''.
“If God would forbid drinking, would he have made this wine as good as it is?” would have declared the Marshal de Richelieu about the Mission Haut-Brion.
