Weather Conditions
The 2024 vintage was marked by a rainy year. The rain hardly stopped, except during the relatively dry months of July and August. The soils of Château Cheval Blanc were replenished with water reserves. September was also rainy, with 124 mm of recorded precipitation.
The Vineyard in 2024
Budburst was early. Flowering was chaotic and extended over five weeks, from the end of May to the end of June. Veraison was thus uneven and rather late compared to previous years. The vineyard was under high pressure due to humidity and mildew. In September, the sanitary state deteriorated and some berries began to burst. The great variability in the vine’s cycle carried through into harvest time and was visible between different soil types, plots, and even within the same vine plant.
Harvest
In the rain, the harvest began on September 18 and ended on October 3.
Grape Selection & Blending
Sorting was extremely rigorous in 2024 at Château Cheval Blanc. 34% of the crop was discarded following several stages of sorting, such as manual cluster selection and density sorting baths. From an initially expected yield of 40 hL/Ha, only 28 hL/Ha were retained and vinified, representing 66% of the harvest.

Histoire et anecdotes
The Cheval Blanc estate was created in 1832 by Jean-Jacques Ducasse following the acquisition of vineyard land formerly attached to Château Figeac. Discovering an exceptional terroir, the owners opted for a singular grape variety, composed of half Merlot and half Cabernet Franc. In 1878, the wine was awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
In 1954, Cheval Blanc was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the Saint-Emilion classification.
In 1998, Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère became the owners of the prestigious château and gave it a new vitality. Pierre Lurton became Chairman and CEO of Cheval Blanc.
