CHATEAU BEYCHEVELLE, 2024

En primeurs 2024
Vision of the 2024 Vintage
« The 2024 vintage was a particularly demanding year, both in the vineyard and at harvest time. It required peace of mind and careful thought before each decision, a great capacity to adapt, even to resist, as well as unfailing commitment from our teams. Supported by high-performance equipment, they rose to the challenge posed by the vagaries of the weather, harvesting grapes of excellent quality and producing wines of remarkable finesse and balance. » - Philippe Blanc
Viticulture
The winter was mild and very wet—one of the wettest for Beychevelle—leading to an early bud break from March 20th. The humidity lingered into spring, bringing mildew, particularly in Merlot plots. The teams implemented a full program to prevent and control diseases and improve airflow between vine rows and optimize treatment exposure: green harvesting, debudding, and early leaf removal. Summer arrived in August with intense, dry heat. September was very rainy, complicating ripeness tracking and harvest decisions. Sunny days and cool nights allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity. Beychevelle stood out in 2024 thanks to its well-draining gravel soils and a unique microclimate influenced by its proximity to the Gironde estuary.
Harvest
The harvest lasted 10 days, starting on September 24 and ending on October 9. Mornings were cold at the estate, preserving the freshness of the harvested bunches.
Aging
The wine was aged in 70% new French oak barrels.
Tasting Château Margaux 2024
« Château Beychevelle is aromatic, with hints of blackcurrant and blackberry. The oak level is perfectly tuned. Château Beychevelle 2024 has a fine, velvety tannic structure, a lovely aromatic balance with notes of red fruit and spices and plenty of freshness. » - Château Beychevelle

History and anecdotes
Château Beychevelle is a prestigious Cru Classé with a history dating back to the 16th century. Powerful families lived in, especially Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette, the First Duke of Epernon and Grand Admiral of France, who bought the estate under the reign of Henri II. According to the legend, ships that would pass ahead of his Château had to lower their sails as a sign of allegiance, that is why it was named Beychevelle: “lower sails”. Nowadays, Grands Millésimes de France (Castel and Suntory Group) own the estate.Vineyard Detail
