En primeurs 2024

2024 Vintage
Between mild winter and spring rains, the 2024 vintage began with an early budbreak. Flowering occurred under very good conditions but was followed by storms. Effective control of mildew, vigor, and ground cover helped minimize losses. The dry summer was highly beneficial to the wine’s aromatic bouquet, promoting the development of fruity aromas and avoiding green and herbaceous notes.

Some Key Figures
The 2024 vintage at Château Pontet-Canet was wetter than the average of the past 10 years, with 1,318 mm compared to 874 mm. Average temperatures in 2024 were roughly aligned with the 10-year average, while total sunshine hours were lower in 2024 compared to the 10-year average (by 355 hours).

Harvest
The harvest began on September 26 and ended on October 11. In August, weather conditions were not favorable, and the Château decided to take the risk of waiting to harvest the grapes at optimal ripeness starting from the end of September.

Aging
The wine was aged in 50% new French oak barrels, 35% in concrete amphorae, and 15% in once-used barrels.

Wine Profile
« We took the time to wait for optimal ripeness, thus giving this vintage every chance to become a beautiful ‘Grand Vin’. » - Château Pontet-Canet

Details chateau PONTET-CANET

History and anecdotes Created by Jean-François de Pontet at the beginning of the 18th century, the vineyard was enlarged a few decades later by the acquisition of plots of land in the Canet area. Château Pontet-Canet is recognized for the great quality of its wines, and this is confirmed by being classified as the 5th Growth of Pauillac in 1855. In 1975, Château Pontet-Canet became the property of the Tesseron family, a cognac merchant. In 1994, Alfred Tesseron revolutionized the methods of vineyard management by adopting sustainable farming techniques based on biodynamics. Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc properties that has known only three families of owners.
