Vision of the Vintage ‘2024, the primary element’
Thomas Duroux of Château Palmer shares a few words on the 2024 vintage:
“The sky doesn’t always provide a schedule. Accustomed to hostile springs, we have collectively developed good reflexes. The precision of the blend and the winemaking experience elevate this vintage to its quintessence.”

Viticulture
The 2024 weather was very challenging. Rainfall was 100% higher than the ten-year average, increasing disease risk in the vineyard. Downy mildew appeared as early as April 22, and nature awakened rapidly. Under such conditions, the oldest Merlot plots experienced coulure. A dry summer brought some respite for the teams. However, heavy rains in September accelerated the harvest.

Tasting of Vintage 2024
“With very delicate tannin structure in Alter Ego, a pleasing aromatic palette. And aging potential that won’t prevent it from being extremely seductive in its youth.” – Thomas Duroux

History and anecdotes

The English General Charles Palmer acquired the estate in 1814 and gave it his name in the 1830s. The Peireire brothers, influential bankers, bought Château Palmer in 1853, shortly before its classification as a 3rd growth in 1855. They built the emblematic château we know today.

In 1938, the estate was bought by four great Bordeaux merchant families, the Ginestet, Mihailhe, Mähler-Besse and Sichel. Today, the last two families are the owners, and since 2004, the management has been entrusted to Thomas Duroux, an agricultural engineer and oenologist.
