CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU, 2009

SAINT-JULIEN

"The purity of the fruit is wonderful in this wine, with plums, blackcurrant, and touches of fresh mushrooms. There are also notes of cloves. Full-bodied, with chewy and creamy tannins and a fresh and vibrant finish. Remarkable energy and intensity. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Best from 2018 onwards." - James Suckling

History and anecdotes
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a Second Growth wine classified under the 1855 classification in the Saint-Julien appellation. It was founded over 300 years ago. Located near the Gironde estuary, it owes its name to its "beautiful stones," Günzian gravel carried over two million years ago by the Gironde River. The Borie family acquired it in 1941.
