CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU, 2005

SAINT-JULIEN

"This is an exceptionally powerful wine with a dense purple color, superb intensity, and a magnificent, soft nose of spring flowers, raspberries, blueberries, graphite, and crème de cassis. Full-bodied, with fabulous concentration, exceptionally high tannins, good acidity, and massive layers of richness that gradually unfold on the palate, this monumental effort is more structured than their remarkable 2003 vintage. It could very well be the best wine produced at this estate since the 1982 and 1961 vintages of Ducru. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050." - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a Second Growth wine classified under the 1855 classification in the Saint-Julien appellation. It was founded over 300 years ago. Located near the Gironde estuary, it owes its name to its "beautiful stones," Günzian gravel carried over two million years ago by the Gironde River. The Borie family acquired it in 1941.
