CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU, 2008

SAINT-JULIEN

"One of the stars of the vintage and a remarkable achievement in 2008, this wine boasts impressive richness. With a dense purple color that is almost as opaque as the 2010, it reveals aromas of spring flowers, crushed rocks, crème de cassis, and subtle hints of oak. These are followed by a full-bodied and concentrated wine that transcends the character of the vintage with its power, richness, and aging potential. It also exhibits remarkable precision, purity, and depth of character. It is more approachable than the 2010 is likely to be, but probably not as opulent as the 2009 will be. This is a wine to buy. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2035." - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a Second Growth wine classified under the 1855 classification in the Saint-Julien appellation. It was founded over 300 years ago. Located near the Gironde estuary, it owes its name to its "beautiful stones," Günzian gravel carried over two million years ago by the Gironde River. The Borie family acquired it in 1941.
