PAVILLON ROUGE DU CHATEAU MARGAUX, 2008

MARGAUX

" The second wine, the 2008 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, represents 47% of the harvest (...) and is composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, the remainder being mostly Petit Verdot with a touch of Cabernet Franc. It is a magnificent wine, marked by classic purity and aromas of red and black fruits mingled with notes of licorice, tobacco leaf, and floral nuances. Soft, round tannins combined with a lovely, welcoming freshness suggest that this superb second wine will be enjoyable young but can also age for more than 15 years." – Robert Parker

Histoire et anecdotes

The history of the Château dates back to the 13th century, when there is mention of a fortress known as the “Château de la Mothe de Margaux.” It was in the 15th century that the vineyard was structured, abandoning cereal cultivation in favor of viticulture. In 1855, the vineyard was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé. The second wine has been marketed since the beginning of the 20th century. The estate was sold in 1977 to André Mentzelopoulos, who undertook major modernization work. Today, his daughter Corinne continues his legacy.
