Histoire et anecdotes
Created by Jean-François de Pontet at the beginning of the 18th century, the vineyard was enlarged a few decades later by the acquisition of plots of land in the Canet area. Château Pontet-Canet is recognized for the great quality of its wines, and this is confirmed by being classified as the 5th Growth of Pauillac in 1855. In 1975, Château Pontet-Canet became the property of the Tesseron family, a cognac merchant. In 1994, Alfred Tesseron revolutionized the methods of vineyard management by adopting sustainable farming techniques based on biodynamics.
Château Pontet-Canet is one of the Médoc properties that has known only three families of owners.
