CHATEAU PONTET-CANET, 2001

PAUILLAC

« I must say, the nose is quite delectable with wonderful definition and harmony. There are notes of blackberry, wild hedgerow, a touch of shellfish, a little cedar and smoke coming through with a hint of pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied and showing more finesse than the 2003, perhaps with finer tannins, a more feminine Pontet-Canet. Very focused, still quite primal, very seductive towards the rounded, plum finish with very faint hints of smoked meats. Great harmony and focus. This is certainly beginning to open although it would need serious decanting. » - Neal Martin

Histoire et anecdotes

Created by Jean-François de Pontet at the beginning of the 18th century, the vineyard was expanded a few decades later with the acquisition of plots in the locality known as Canet. Château Pontet-Canet is renowned for the high quality of its wines, which was confirmed when it was classified as a 5th Growth of Pauillac in 1855. In 1975, Château Pontet-Canet became the property of the Tesseron family, cognac merchants. It was from 1994 that Alfred Tesseron revolutionized vineyard management methods by adopting sustainable farming techniques focused on biodynamics.

Château Pontet-Canet is one of the estates in the Médoc that has had only three families of owners throughout its history.
