CHATEAU LÉOVILLE BARTON, 2003

SAINT-JULIEN

" A spectacular success, the Léoville Barton 2003, with its opaque plum color, is still youthful in its maturity phase. It reveals a striking bouquet of underbrush and blackcurrant, as well as a full-bodied, exuberant, and youthful style, an opaque plum/ruby hue, great complexity, and remarkable depth and richness. This is a profound and dazzling achievement by Anthony Barton and his team. Bravo! This wine should continue to provide immense pleasure for 20 to 30 years. To be enjoyed between 2014 and 2044. " - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes

In the 19th century, the Léoville estate, in the Saint-Julien appellation, was one of the largest crus. It was later divided into three estates: Château Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Barton, and Château Léoville Poyferré. A part of the Léoville estate was purchased in 1826 by the Irishman Hugh Barton, marking the birth of Château Léoville Barton, which is still owned by the Barton family. The finesse of its wines allowed it to be classified as a 2nd Grand Cru during the 1855 classification.
