CARRUADES DE LAFITE, 2010

PAUILLAC

"Another brilliant second wine, the Carruades de Lafite 2010 (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42.5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot) is elegant and impressive for a second wine from Lafite. 'Carruades de Lafite' is now engraved on the bottle to prevent unscrupulous sommeliers or merchants from passing it off as Lafite Rothschild. The wine displays many notes similar to its big sister, such as pencil lead, charcoal, and blackcurrant, although it is more accessible, earlier-drinking, and far less structured than the grand vin. Nevertheless, this wine, which can be enjoyed now, will age beautifully for at least 20 to 25 years." - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes

Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild. The château, located in Médoc within the Pauillac appellation, was classified as Premier Cru in 1855. The history of Château Lafite Rothschild dates back to the 13th century. Until the 17th century, the estate was a co-seignory, with some lands already dedicated to vine cultivation. Between 1670 and 1680, Jacques de Ségur organized the vineyard. In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild acquired the château.
