2021 VINTAGE | Jeanne Lacombe, Operations Manager of Château Pape Clément, speaks about the 2021 vintage " A challenging vintage where skill and precision were required to reveal our exceptional terroir. " |
WINEGROWING | The winter is warm and humid. The spring was cool and rainy and was marked by frost episodes. The sun at the end of the summer allowed an optimal concentration of the grapes. The 2021 vintage was cooler than normal for the season, so the harvest took place one week later than usual: it started on September 28 and ended on October 14. |
WINEMAKING | A first sorting is done at the vineyard and then the pneumatic press is filled manually. The whole grapes are pressed very slowly under an inert atmosphere in order to protect the aromatic bouquet. The juice flows by gravity from the press into the barrels. The vinification is carried out in French oak barrels and tuns. The wines are aged on fine lees with regular stirring. |
