CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD, 2021

PAUILLAC

Chateau Mouton Rothschild express itself about the 2021 vintage : " The wine is deep and dark, with a lustrous purple hue. The intense and elegant nose displays seductively scented blackberry and blackcurrant aromas, combined with floral notes of iris and touches of spice and cedarwood. A luscious, succulent attack leads into a beautifully balanced, fresh and harmonious palate on which bigarreau cherry flavours are enfolded in a structure of sapid, patrician tannins. Sustained by an exquisite minerality, the long, lingering finish releases a succession of spicy fresh fruit notes. "

CHARACTERISTICS

CLASSIFICATION 1er Grand Cru Classé
GRAPE VARIETIES 89% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot, 1% cabernet franc
2021 VINTAGE " The 2021 vintage, with its northern ripening conditions, will return to the great classic balances of the last century by producing fresh, balanced and structured wines that will gradually reveal all their complexity. "
WINEMAKING

The winter was mild and the spring was marked by cold spells that were tempered by the proximity of the Gironde estuary. The cooler temperatures in May slowed down the phisiology of the vine but the flowering took place in normal conditions. The beginning of the summer was rainy and caused a pressure of mildew. The end of the summer was drier and allowed the vines to be cleaned up and to create a hydric pressure to obtain perfectly ripe grapes.

WINEMAKING Traditional winemaking and wine ageing. Wines age in French oak barrels for 19 to 22 months.
BOTTLE SIZE 75 CL

History and anecdotes
In 1853, the Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, who was eager to serve his own wine to his guests, bought the Château Brane-Mouton at auction; the estate that will carry his name. In 1924, his great-grandson, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild, developed the bottling at the château. Indeed, wine was before delivered in barrels to wine merchants. In 1973, the château was promoted and classified as Premier Grand Cru in the 1855 classification.
