History and anecdotes
In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, eager to serve his own wine to his guests, purchased Château Brane-Mouton at auction, a property that would henceforth bear his name. In 1924, his great-grandson, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, developed bottling at the château. Previously, the wine was delivered in barrels to merchants. In 1973, the château was promoted to the rank of Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification.
