CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE, 2008

SAINT-JULIEN

"Although the 2008 vintage is not a monumental wine, it represents a commendable effort for the year. This wine, with its dark plum/purple color, reveals notes of oak in the background, licorice, earth, plum, blackcurrant, and cherry, intertwined with a forest/mossy character. Deep, refined, and medium- to full-bodied with soft tannins, it develops gradually on the palate. This remarkable 2008 will benefit from 2 to 3 years of aging and should drink well for two decades." - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes
The existence of the Château dates back to the 17th century. It was successively owned by Abbé Gruaud and then by Chevalier Joseph Sébastien Larose. In 1781, the name Château Gruaud-Larose was established, combining the surnames of its previous owners. Château Gruaud Larose was classified as a second growth in 1855, under the Saint-Julien appellation. In 1997, the château was purchased by the Merlaut family. Today, Jean Merlaut heads the estate.

The name of the château's second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, originates from one of its owners in 1867, Baron Sarget.

The motto of Château Gruaud Larose is “The King of Wines, The Wine of Kings.”
