History and anecdotes
L’existence du Château remonte au 17ème siècle. Il fût  successivement détenu par l’abbé Gruaud puis par le Chevalier Joseph Sébastien Larose. Aussi, en 1781, le nom de Château Gruaud - Larose fût fixé, associant les patronymes de ses précédents propriétaires. Le Château Gruaud Larose est classé second cru en 1855, en appellation Saint-Julien. En 1997, le château est acheté par la famille Merlaut. Aujourd’hui, Jean Merlaut est à la tête de la propriété.

Le nom du second vin du château, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, provient de l’un des propriétaires en 1867, le baron Sarget.  

La devise du château Gruaud Larose est " Le Roi des Vins, Le Vin des Rois ”.
