It is the oldest wine estate classified in Pomerol appellation - it dates back to the 16th century - Vieux Château Certan’s origines came from a Scottish family: the Demay family. It was bought by George Thienpont, a wine merchant practising in Belgium, in 1924, and has been run by his heirs since the end of the fifties.
The Vieux Château Certan estate is mentioned by the engineer geographer Belleyme on his famous 1785 map.
