History and anecdotes
The oldest documented vineyard in the Pomerol appellation – its history dates back to the 16th century – Vieux Château Certan has its origins in a Scottish family: the Demay family. It was Georges Thienpont, a wine merchant based in Belgium, who purchased it in 1924, and it has been managed by his heirs since the late 1950s.
The Vieux Château Certan estate is mentioned by the engineer-geographer Belleyme on his famous 1785 map.
