CHATEAU MONTROSE, 2006

SAINT-ESTEPHE

" The 2006 Montrose is an unqualified success. A blend of around two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, one-third Merlot and a tiny dollop of Petit Verdot, the most dramatic difference between the 2006 and the wines produced by the previous administration is that Jean Delmas produces wines with softer, silkier tannins; Jean Delmas is producing wines with softer, silkier tannins, even if, analytically, they are as yeasty as those found in the great Montrose vintages of the past. The 2006 is extraordinarily elegant, with great finesse, but there is a stunning concentration of mucus and sweet blackcurrant fruit, with floral and mineral notes. Full-bodied, with a savory, expansive mid-palate and sweet, noble tannins, this beauty will benefit from 3 to 4 years of bottle age and should drink well for 20 to 25+ years. " - Robert Parker
