CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD, 2008

PAUILLAC

" A candidate for the "wine of the vintage," the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to rise in value due to the significance of the number 8 in Chinese culture (symbolizing good fortune). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high-quality unsmoked tobacco, pencil shavings, crème de cassis, earth, cedar, and asphalt. Full-bodied, rich, and strikingly concentrated, I doubt it is inferior to the 2010 vintage, simply more classic, slightly more approachable, and with a slightly lower alcohol level (12.5% compared to 13.5%). The 2008 should be relatively drinkable in 6 to 10 years as it already shows remarkable complexity and nobility and will last 30 to 35 years... at the very least." - Robert Parker

History and anecdotes
The château located in Médoc, was classified as Premier Cru in the 1855 classification, in Pauillac appellation. The Château Lafite Rothschild history started in the 13th century.. Until the 17th century, the estate was a co-lordship whose co-owners received the rents from farmers who were cultivating the lands, some of which were already dedicated to the culture of vine. Between 1670 and 1680, Jacques de Ségure structured the vineyard. In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild acquired Château Lafite.
