CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD, 2001

PAUILLAC

" The Lafite-Rothschild 2001 offers a bit more precision on the nose compared to the Lafite 2000 vintage. It is lively and concentrated, with aromas of blackberry, wild rose, cedar, mint, and a hint of cola in the background. The palate is well-balanced and shows an elegant texture, developing beautifully with aeration to offer a superb finish, tinged with truffle, slightly spicier than during my last tasting of this vintage three years ago. Perhaps it fades slightly on the finish compared to the 2000. Nevertheless, it remains an elegant, noble Lafite-Rothschild that exudes class. 2023 - 2052." - Neal Martin

History and anecdotes
The château located in Médoc, was classified as Premier Cru in the 1855 classification, in Pauillac appellation. The Château Lafite Rothschild history started in the 13th century.. Until the 17th century, the estate was a co-lordship whose co-owners received the rents from farmers who were cultivating the lands, some of which were already dedicated to the culture of vine. Between 1670 and 1680, Jacques de Ségure structured the vineyard. In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild acquired Château Lafite.
