"Château Grand Puy Lacoste 2005 displays a brilliant and classic nose of pencil lead, typical of Pauillac. There’s no dithering here. The palate is very well defined, with beautiful acidity, great depth of dark fruits, and a breathtakingly precise finish. Is it the best 2005 of the vintage? Not quite, but it is among the best. And when considering the quality-to-price ratio, I would be happy to have a large quantity of it in my cellar to drink for the rest of my life—and even beyond, if there’s an afterlife.
