CHATEAU PALMER, 2022

PRIMEURS - LIVRAISON 2025

" From the first swirl of the glass, the texture of this Château Palmer 2022 already hints at an exceptional substance. On the palate, black and blue fruits explode; the tannin grain, smooth and delicate, plays like velvet. Without denying its sun-kissed identity, Château Palmer reveals in chiaroscuro a freshness drawn from its terroir; it radiates a dark and beautiful light, like a Soulages ‘Outrenoir.’ Its harmonious timbre, with a deep, earthy resonance, has yet to reveal all its nuances. " - Château Palmer

CHARACTERISTICS

CLASSIFICATION 3rd Grand Cru Classé
GRAPE VARIETIES 45% Merlot, 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot
VINTAGE 2022 " Born under contrasting conditions, this 2022 vintage carries the promise of powerful wines, with a precise texture where harmony is more important than ever. " - Château Palmer
VITICULTURE The 2022 vintage withstood challenging climatic conditions and expressed the complexity of Château Palmer wines. After a wet autumn, a moderately rainy winter brought mildness and freshness to the vineyard. The uniform bud break of the Merlots marked the beginning of the vintage on March 22. Despite intense frosts in April, the impact on the vines was limited. May was sunny, with rapid flowering in a warm and dry environment. Beneficial storms in June were followed by a scorching summer with no significant rainfall until mid-August. Mildew pressure decreased, but the water deficit affected vine growth. Harvesting began on September 7, with berries of reduced weight but an imposing tannic structure. Fermentation proceeded in balance, demonstrating the clarity of Palmer's terroir. Blending took place in November, and the 2022 vintage promises powerful and harmonious wines, reflecting the precision and quality of our terroir.

History and anecdotes

The English general, Charles Palmer acquired the estate in 1814 and gave it his name in the 1830s. The Pereire brothers, influential bankers, bought Château Palmer in 1853, just before being classified as Troisième Cru in 1855. They built the emblematic château we all know today.

In 1938, the estate was bought by four great families, wine merchants from Bordeaux, the Ginestet, the Mihailhen, the Mähler-Besse and the Sichel. The last two families are nowadays the estate’s owners, but it has been run by Thomas Duroux, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, since 2004.
