Cheval Blanc s'exprime sur le millésime 2022 : "Un millésime historiquement sec et chaud, du début à la fin du cycle.Nous restons impressionnés par la capacité du végétal à s’adapter à ces conditions extrêmes et à nous offrir un vin qui conserve malgré tout une fraîcheur et un équilibre remarquable.
Viticulture
Le débourrement s'est fait à la fin mars ce qui est normal dans la région de Saint-Emilion. Puis au 24 mai a eu lieu la mi-floraison au 24mai ce qui est aussi dans la moyenne de la région. Le temps sec et chaud a provoqué une mi-véraison précoce pour les merlots, le 23 juillet. C'est ainsi que les vendanges se sont déroulées pour la premièrefois en août, du 29 août au 20 septembre avec des rendements de 28,9hL / ha.
Vinification
La vinification est parcellaire,et la fermentation alcoolique esteffectuée avec des levures indigènes. L'extraction est douce ets'accompagne de remontages manuels avec un seul délestage pendantles 4 semaines de cuvaison. La fermentation malolactique se faitencuves.
Élevage
Le vin est élevé pendant 16 mois dans des barriques neuves à 100%.

History and anecdotes
The Cheval Blanc estate was created in 1832 by Jean-Jacques Ducasse following the acquisition of vineyard land formerly attached to Château Figeac. Discovering an exceptional terroir, the owners opted for a singular grape variety, composed of half Merlot and half Cabernet Franc. In 1878, the wine was awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1954, Cheval Blanc was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the Saint-Emilion classification. In 1998, Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère became the owners of the prestigious château and gave it a new vitality. Pierre Lurton became Chairman and CEO of Cheval Blanc.Vineyard Detail
