History and anecdotes
The Petrus estate is located in Pomerol and is named after the locality where vines are growing. The name of the locality would come from “Saint Pierre” (Petrus in latin), whom you can see carrying the keys to paradise on Petrus wine tags. Strictly speaking, the estate does not have any château.
The estate was bought by Edmonde Loubat, a hotelkeeper in Libourne, in 1925. Hoping for soil development, she got Jean-Pierre Moueix, a wine merchant in Libourne, as a partner. The estate wines were then displayed to the best tables, from the Queen Elisabeth II wedding banquet to the Kennedy family. Since 2001, the estate has belonged to the Moueix family. In 2018, 20% of the estate was sold to Alejandro Santo Domingo.
Robert Parker gave the mark of 100/100 nine times to Petrus wines, for the 2010, 2009, 2000, 1990, 1989, 1961, 1947, 1929, and 1921 vintages.
