History and anecdotes

The origins of Château Léoville Poyferré date back to the 17th century. Château Léoville Poyferré is one of the three estates that resulted from the division of the Léoville estate, the other two being Léoville Barton and Léoville Las Cases. The name was inherited in 1840 from Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferré de Cère. Its quality was quickly recognized, and it was classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. In 1920, the Cuvelier family became the owners of this estate.

Château Léoville Poyferré is located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, in the Saint-Julien appellation. Situated near Latour and Pichon Baron, the location of Château Léoville Poyferré gives it a high-quality gravel terroir. Compared to its famous neighboring wineries, it is distinguished by its creaminess, richness, modernity, and exuberance.
