History and anecdotes
Founded in 1829 in Aÿ, the Bollinger Champagne House is an independent, family-owned company. It was born from the meeting between Athanase de Villermont - an aristocrat and owner of vineyards in Champagne -, Joseph Bollinger - a German wine merchant - and Paul Renaudin - a Champagne enthusiast -. In 1837, Joseph Bollinger married Louise-Charlotte, Athanase's daughter, and his descendants took over the House until 2007. Today, the governance of the house is entrusted to Charles-Armand de Belenet.
