CRISTAL, 2009

CHAMPAGNE

" Golden yellow color with matte and amber reflections. Persistent, brilliant, fine and nervous effervescence. Subtle bouquet, both secret and concentrated. It reveals notes of citrus compote, candied apricot and gently evokes honeysuckle. On aeration, we perceive the cocoa bean finely vanilla, roasted hazelnut and hints of licorice on the edge of cinnamon. The mouth is organized, energetic and chiselled. A first sensation, dense, ripe, silky is amplified by the discovery of a chalky cave freshness, a powdery, almost mentholated freshness. The feeling is delicate and airy, a sequence of greedy and colorful textures, perfectly integrated with the lightness and finesse of the wine, a real invitation to travel. The luminous personality of Cristal emerges, both sharp and pure, in a finish still focused on chalk, energy and grain. " - Tasting commentary by Louis Roederer

History and anecdotes
La Maison Roederer, founded in 1776, is one of the last Champagne houses still owned by the founding family. In 1833, Louis Roederer inherited the house from his uncle and gave it his name. Contrary to the trend of the time, he decided to buy new parcels of vines in order to better control the elaboration of his cuvées. The iconic Cuvée Cristal was created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia.
