CHATEAU HAUT BRION BLANC, 2022

PRIMEURS - LIVRAISON 2025

"Light yellow color, with green reflections. The nose is seductive, powerful and ripe, complex. The attack is ample and fat: one has the impression of biting into a juicy white peach. The finish is tactile and perfumed. What a wine! "- Chateau Haut Brion

CHARACTERISTICS

CLASSIFICATION 1st Grand Cru Classé
ASSEMBLY

51.4% Semillon, 48.6% Sauvignon

2022 VINTAGE "The 2022 vintage is characterized by a hot and dry weather which required an adaptation of the viticultural practices, with very few green harvesting operations in order to protect the grapes from the heat and the sun" - Château Haut Brion
VITICULTURE

The winter of 2021 was rainy, allowing the soil to replenish its water reserves. In February, temperatures rose above the seasonal norms, leading to early vegetation. Although there was a frost episode in April, the impact on the vines was minimal. Mild temperatures in May favored vine growth, and despite the heat waves from June to August and the lack of rain, the grapes ripened early in August thanks to some rainfall. The harvest of the white grapes of the vintage began on August 17 in sunny conditions, making this the earliest harvest since 2003. To preserve the aromas of the white grape varieties, the harvest was done early in the morning and the grapes were cooled upon arrival at the winery. The teams are reinforced for a fast and optimal harvest, with aromatic sauvignons and semillons of great finesse.

VINIFICATION The careful tasting of each vat allows us to adjust each parameter of the winemaking process.
MATURING The wine is aged in 62.9% new barrels.

History and anecdotes

Located in Pessac, a few kilometres away from Bordeaux. Château Haut-Brion is the oldest wine estate of the region. Founded in 1533 by the Pontac family who kept innovating and improving viticultural techniques, especially by developing the wine ageing potential. Wines were sought-after by monarchs and many writers extolled the virtues of them, such as Samuel Pepys who wrote: “And there, drank a sort of French wine, called Ho-Bryan, that hath a good and most particular taste that I never met with …”. The first branded wine was born.

It was in Château Haut-Brion, in the middle of the 17th century, that a new style of wine was made, “the new French Claret”, behind the actual great long-keeping wines, which marked a real winegrowing turn. It was at this moment that they started to bottle at the château.

While he was visiting, Thomas Jefferson, the next third president of the United States would have written to his brother in law: “I cannot deny myself the pleasure of asking you to invest in a parcel of wine I have been choosing for myself. I do it the rather as it will furnish you a specimen of what is the very best Bordeaux wine. It is of the vineyard of Obrion.”
