DOMAINE DE LA ROMANÉE-CONTI, 2009

RICHEBOURG

“The 2009 Richebourg is a dramatic wine. In 2009 there is so much fruit that the tannins are barely perceptible. With time in the glass dark notes of tar, smoke, licorice and violets develop, adding tons of complexity to the fruit. This is a huge, vertical wine that captures the essence of Richebourg in its towering fruit and structure. Layers of fruit saturate every corner of the palate as the wine builds to a deeply satisfying crescendo of head-spinning aromas and flavors.” Wine Advocate 97/100

Histoire et anecdotes

The most popular estate of the region, the Romanée-Conti estate, has a long history that started in the 13th century when the priors planted the first vines. The name “Romanée” appeared for the first time in 1651. In 1794, the estate was named “Romanée Conty” after having belonged to Prince Louis-François de Bourbon-Conti. Then, in 1869, the estate was bought by Jacques-Marie Duvault and was then passed down to the Villaine family through his great-grandson. The Leroy family has been co-owner since 1942.
