History and anecdotes

The vineyard of Château-Grillet, located in the AOC of the same name, would have been planted in the 3rd century by the emperor Probus from plants coming from Dalmatia. Throughout history, the wine of Château-Grillet has been appreciated by the greatest people in the world: Thomas Jefferson, Josephine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon I and the King of England George IV. In 1936, Château-Grillet was recognized as an appellation contrôlée. This monopoly is one of the smallest appellations in France.
